From newborns to adults, all of us every so often will experience a form of stomach ache. There are many reasons why this can occur. It can be caused by eating too much, sometimes too little, eating too quickly, or even just eating the wrong things such as rich, fatty or even spicy foods. All the things that are bad for us seem to taste so nice so we can’t resist occasionally eating them, in some cases people eat them all the time and this can be bad. The reasons it can be bad is because not only are the high in fat, calories etc but they can cause havoc on our digestive system.
Generally as a whole our diets are the main concern for our tummy troubles; however stomach ache can be a sign of something more serious going on in there. Stomach problems could be a concern for insurance companies. This may be because so much can go wrong in there and we can’t tell what is going to happen and exactly when if it does. If you have a stomach disorder such as (IBS) irritable bowel syndrome or pancreatitis, they may be concerned about the current state of it. However if you have experienced problems such as an upset stomach or even vomiting, typically if you have recovered quickly, had no hospital treatment etc, then they are not normally concerned.
Some of the causes of stomach ache may be because of constipation, ulcers, food allergies, kidney stones, endometriosis, a urinary tract infection, wind, appendicitis, stomach flu, gall stones, a hernia and others. If you experience any symptoms of stomach ache and they are things like blood in your stools, being sick and having traces of blood in it, a fever, unable to keep food down for more than a couple of days then you may need to seek medical attention. These may be early warning signs that something is not right. However it may just be a bad bug that you have caught. There are many ways that a doctor can determine the cause of your stomach ache. They may be things like how long you have had the pains for, what you have recently eaten, the family history of cancer etc, and the location of the pain, the severity of the pain that you are experiencing, if you have recently sustained or suffered an injury amongst others.
If the problems that you are experience are fairly mild, you can try and relieve some of the symptoms by taking painkillers to get rid of the pain. You can also try pressure points of the body for example certain parts in the hand and feet that are meant to alleviate pain, trying take a not and see if the problem is occurring due to certain types of foods etc. A general practitioner can carry out a range of tests from blood samples, stool, urine tests, barium enemas and even barium meals, an endoscopy, X ray and even an ultrasound scan and most of these would need to be documented on a Critical Illness Insurance plan.
